Vehicle Pursuit

On October 2, 2024, at approximately 10 p.m., while driving on I-65 North and Finley Boulevard, a Jefferson County Sheriff’s Office deputy observed the driver of a vehicle swerve across multiple lanes of traffic.  The deputy attempted to stop the vehicle, but the driver refused to stop.   The driver of the vehicle continued to drive at a high rate of speed until it struck a Walker County Sheriff’s Office deputy’s vehicle near I-22WB and mile marker 65, before losing control of her vehicle and wrecking it.  The 22-year-old female suspect was taken into custody without incident.  The suspect was taken to U.A.B. hospital as a precaution.  The Walker County Sheriff’s Office deputy received minor injuries and was transported to a local hospital.

The suspect has been identified as: Rayni Sherman, 22 of Phoenix, Arizona.  The suspect has been charged with Resisting Arrest with a $3,000.00 bond; Possession of Drug Paraphernalia with a $6,000.00 bond; Possession of Marijuana 2nd Degree with a $6,000.00 bond; Felony Attempt to Elude with a $15,000.00 bond; DUI-Influence of Controlled Substance with a $7,500.00 bond; and Reckless Endangerment with a $6,000.00 bond.  The suspect is in the custody of the Jefferson County Jail.

Total bond: 43,500.00
