UPDATE: Capital Murder Suspect in Custody

Capital Murder suspect Zachery Durante Danner has turned himself in to the Jefferson County jail. Danner was wanted in connection with the murder and attempted murder that occurred on August 22, 2019 in the Grayson Valley community. Danner has a $100,000.00 bond for the Capital Murder Charge and $60,000.00 bond for the Attempted Murder Charge.

1 Man Charged In Late Night Homicide Another is Wanted

Jefferson County Sheriff’s Deputies have tracked down 25-year-old Kendall Bernard Banks and charged him with Capital Murder in connection with the August 22, 2019 homicide in the Grayson Valley neighborhood. On Thursday August 22, 2019 at 11:44pm the Sheriff’s Office received a call stating that 2 people had been shot at a home in the 5400 block of Nottingham Drive. Deputies arrived and found a man and wife suffering from gunshot wounds. The wife was transported to a local hospital where she was listed in serious condition. The husband was also transported to a local hospital but he succumbed to his wounds. Deputies and detectives have been able to track down 1 of 2 offenders. Evidence shows that some type of domestic dispute occurred and turned into a robbery, and the husband and wife were shot. Kendall Bernard Banks is Charged with Capital Murder bond $100,000.00 and attempted murder bond $60,000.00. Sheriff’s Detectives also obtained warrants for Capital Murder and Attempted Murder for 22-year-old Zachery Durante Danner. Zachery Danner has not been located at this time. Jefferson County Deputies Arrest 18 year old After Chase

On Friday August 16, 2019 at approximately 8:25am an alert deputy spotted a vehicle that had been reported stolen in the parking lot of a convenience store on Roebuck Dr. That vehicle had also been used in a string of car burglaries in the area. The driver of the vehicle attempted to flee and led deputies on a chase that ended when he wrecked the vehicle and bailed out. The driver then fled on foot through the Zion City Community. The citizens reported his direction of travel. Sheriff’s Deputies and Birmingham Police Officers set up a perimeter and was able to keep him boxed in a small area until our K9 units could arrive. The K9 dogs tracked the man to a car wash and deputies found him attempting to change clothes. The man was identified as 18-year-old Nicholas Maurice Simmons. Simmons was charged with Attempting to elude, Reckless Endangerment, Tampering with Physical evidence, Receiving Stolen property 1 and Unlawfully Carrying a Pistol. Simmons bonds total $34,000.00. Two men who tried to assist Simmons in avoiding capture were also arrested and charged with Interfering with Government Operations.

UPDATE: Human Remains Found In Western Jefferson County Identified

On Thursday August 8, 2019 human remains were found near Shady Grove road and Village Creek. The body has been identified as Shawn David Jackson dob 12-5-69. Shawn Jackson was reported missing from Clay County Georgia on July 7, 2019. This case is being worked by Jefferson County investigators and investigators from Clay County.

Traffic Fatality On Highway 280

On Thursday August 15, 2019 at 8:07pm Jefferson County Sheriff’s Deputies were notified that a vehicle had left the roadway on Highway 280 near Shades Crest Parkway and crashed. Deputies arrived and found a vehicle off the roadway and down a ravine. The driver was not wearing a seat belt and was ejected from the vehicle. The driver did not survive the injuries and was pronounced deceased on the scene. The passenger was still buckled in his seatbelt when rescued. The passenger was transported to the hospital with serious injuries. The Sheriff’s accident reconstruction team is investigating the accident.

3 year Old Dies After Being Found Floating in Swimming Pool

On Tuesday August 13 at 5:52pm Jefferson County Sheriff’s Deputies and Bagley Fire and Rescue responded to a call for help at 638 Sayre Mine road Graysville. Family members reported finding a 3 year old boy floating in a swimming pool and unresponsive. The child’s father attempted CPR on the child until medical personnel were on the scene. The child was transported to Children’s hospital where he died later. Sheriff’s detectives have began an investigation into the death of this child. At this time there are no signs of foul play. The Department of Human Resources responded to the scene to check the welfare of the other children at this location.
