Just after noon today a deputy working at Jefferson County Family Court was alerted to a disturbance in one of the courtrooms.

Upon further investigation the deputy found Mecca Scarver yelling and disrupting court proceedings. The deputy attempted to calm Scarver, but was not able to do so. The deputy next attempted to escort Scarver out of the courtroom. She refused to go. The deputy advised Scarver that she was under arrest for Disorderly Conduct.

Scarver fled to the back of the courtroom where her mother interfered with the deputy’s attempt to arrest Scarver. The deputy deployed pepper spray and gained control of Scarver.

Once in the patrol car Scarver slipped out of handcuffs and began kicking the rear window and door.

22-year-old Mecca Scarver was charged with Disorderly Conduct, Attempting to Elude and Escape 3rd Degree. She remains in the Jefferson County Jail with bond set at $6,000.

Scarvers mother, 53-year-old Sheila Smoot was charged with Obstructing Government Operations and Resisting Arrest. She remains in the Jefferson County Jail with bond set at $1500.
