Investigators in the Metro Area Crime Center developed information that led to the seizure of cocaine, heroin, alprazolam.
On October 30, investigators from the Metro Area Crime Center contacted Sheriff’s Narcotics Investigators with information about drugs that had been left in a vehicle when a Birmingham man was arrested for outstanding felony warrants.
The vehicle had been towed to a local wrecker service and was still in impound. Acting on this information, investigators and a Sheriff’s K9 went to the wrecker yard. The K9 gave a positive indication that drugs were inside the vehicle. Narcotics investigators obtained a search warrant and searched the car.
During the search, they discovered three grams of cocaine, two grams of heroin, and an amount of alprazolam tablets, a sedative.
The street value of the drugs is valued at approximately $1000.00
The case will be presented to the Jefferson County District Attorney for review and possible charges against the suspect. The suspect remains in custody with no bond for unrelated cases of failing to appear on drug charges. His name is withheld pending formal charges in this case.
