At approximately 8:53 PM on Sunday night, Jefferson County Sheriff’s Deputies were dispatched to the 4500 block of Gary Avenue in Fairfield on what was initially reported as an active shooter.  It was also reported that a person had been shot at this location.  A large response from additional deputies and surrounding law enforcement agencies ensued.  Upon arrival, deputies determined that initial reports of the circumstances surrounding the incident were incorrect.  During the investigation it was determined a fight had occurred inside the business earlier but was dispersed.  Later, there were shots fired into the air outside the facility.  Deputies also searched the area and verified with local hospitals that there had been no one treated for a gunshot wound that occurred at this location.  It was also determined that there was no visible property damage from the shots.

The Jefferson County Sheriff’s Office would like to thank the agencies that responded to assist on what was initially thought to be a possible large-scale event.  We are relieved that this did not turn out to be the case in this instance.  Even though no one was injured, it could have easily been a different circumstance.  Firing a gun inside of most city limits is illegal and at the very least, it is reckless and irresponsible. We are lucky no one was injured in this case.
