The victim of the shooting was issued a copy of a protection order earlier in the day and told to leave the residence. She returned shortly before the shooting, an argument ensued and she was shot.

On October 27, 2016, 37 year-old Lakisha Hampton of Center Point, turned herself into the Jefferson County Jail. She posted $30,000 bond and was released pending court proceedings.
Hampton is employed as a Jefferson County Deputy Sheriff and was off duty at the time of this incident. Her last assignment was in the corrections division. She has been on administrative leave pending the outcome of the investigation and termination procedures have been initiated.
“Obviously her career in law enforcement is over. We have said time and again in domestic situations that people have got to learn how to control their emotions, walk away and cool off. When that doesn’t happen the outcome is never good. I’m sure their are a lot of regrets on both sides but there are no do overs in real life”, said Chief Deputy Christian.
