15 Year Old Shot After Returning Home Unexpectedly

On November 1, 2020 at approximately 2:15 AM, Jefferson County deputies responded to the 5900 block of Debbie Drive in Clay on a report of a 15 year old female who had been shot.

According to reports, the 15 year old and her friend were dropped off at the friend’s home earlier in the night. Sometime shortly after 2:00 AM, her parents heard the garage door open and thought someone was breaking into the home. The step-father retrieved his firearm and went to investigate.  When the two encountered each other, the juvenile was accidentally shot in the abdomen.

The victim was transported to Children’s Hospital with serious injuries.  Jefferson County Sheriff’s detectives are continuing the investigation.
