Human Remains Found in Western Jefferson County
On Thursday August 8, 2019 at 4:12pm citizens called the Sheriff’s Office to report finding human remains while they were out walking on Shady Grove road near the Village Creek bridge. Deputies reported to their location and did observe what appeared to be human remains protruding from the ground. The Jefferson County Coroners Office was notified and came to the scene. At this time the race or gender of the remains cannot be determined. Deputies will secure the scene until the remains can be excavated tomorrow.
McCalla Burglary Suspect to Face Charges
On Tuesday August 6, 2019 at 6:00pm a homeowner called the Sheriff Office to report that there was an intruder at his home. The homeowner described the intruder as a black male wearing a red shirt. Deputies arrived and could hear the intruder fleeing through the woods. As the deputies began to set up a perimeter to capture the intruder we were notified by the Bessemer Police department that they had taken a person into custody fitting the suspect description on Interstate 459. We were informed that the man was spotted in the middle of interstate 459 wearing a red shirt and underwear. Passers by alerted the officer that the man had a gun in his hand. Man Shot after Dispute in Center Point
On Monday July 29, 2019 at 8:21pm deputies responded to a report of a man down in the 600 block of 20th Court NE in Center Point. Deputies arrived and found a man on the ground suffering from a gunshot wound. The man was transported to the hospital for non-life threatening injuries. Witnesses reported that there was a dispute between two men prior to the shooting. Detectives have identified a suspect but he is not in custody. Detectives are working to determine what happen.
Woman Missing From Jefferson County Found Murdered in Tuscaloosa
20 year old Marka “Willoe” Watkins was reported missing to the Jefferson County Sheriff’s Office on June 15, 2019. Investigators followed up on dozens of tips about possible whereabouts of Watkins. On Sunday July 28, 2019 information came in to the Sheriff’s Office on where she might be. The Tuscaloosa County Sheriff’s Office followed up on that information and were able to located and recover a body, later identified as Marka “Willoe” Watkins. The offense occurred in Tuscaloosa County and is under investigation by the Tuscaloosa Sheriff’s Office. Jefferson County Detectives will provide all background information available.
15 year old Motorcyclist dies after Wreck In Pinson
On Thursday July 25, 2019 at 2:52pm Deputies were notified that there had been a wreck on Highway 75 at Rudd School road involving a pickup truck and a motorcycle. Deputies arrived on the scene and found citizens attending to the injured motorcycle rider. The roadway had to be temporarily shutdown. Paramedics responded and attempted to treat the injured rider but he did not survive his injuries. The rider was identified and determined to be 15 years old. The body was released to the Coroners Office. This accident is under investigation by the Sheriff’s accident reconstruction team.
Vehicle Theft and Recovery
On Monday July 22, 2019 at 6:26 pm a victim called the Sheriff’s office to report that his vehicle had been stolen from a convenience store in the 2500 block of 15th Street Bessemer. The victim reported that he left his car running and when he went inside, someone drove off in his car. Store video showed two men get into the car and drive off. Deputies located the car in the 1000 block of 25th street Hueytown. The car was undamaged and all items were recovered. Deputies located the offenders. Deputies took a 17 year old into custody and a 18 year old fled on foot. Deputies were able to identify but not locate the 18 year old. The victim and his family have chosen to forgive the offenders and declined prosecution due to the age of the offenders. The victim’s may work with the offenders parents to address the offenders conduct.
