Deputies Arrest Robber in Center Point
On Friday July 19, 2019 at 1:35pm Jefferson County Deputies responded to a business in the 2300 block of Center Point parkway. The employees confronted a man for shoplifting and instructed him to return the items he had placed down his pants. The man removed 2 items and went out the door. When the employees asked for the other items the man pulled out a knife and threatened them. When the deputies arrived the employees pointed out the man who was still nearby. When the deputies approached the man, he ran from them but was chased down a short distance later. Deputies recovered the knife and $74.69 worth of store merchandise. The man was identified as 50 year old Michael Anthony Haynes. Haynes was arrested and charged with robbery 1st degree with a $10,000.00 bond.

Shooting on Highway 79
On Wednesday July 17, 2019 at 8:48pm deputies responded to a shooting on Highway 79 near Fleming road. The driver reported that a vehicle pulled beside her occupied by 4 black males and began shooting at her and her passenger. The men then did a U-turn and headed in the other direction. The passenger was struck by gunfire. Deputies began to search for and track the offender’s vehicle. The injured victim was transported to the hospital with non-life threatening injuries. This offense does not appear to be random but a targeted act. Sheriff’s detectives are investigating this shooting.
Man Stabbed on Eastern Valley Road
On Wednesday July 17, 2019 at 6:59pm deputies responded to a stabbing in the 5300 block of Fleming Road. A 70 year old homeowner called 911 to report that he had stabbed a man who lived with him after the man assaulted him repeatedly. Deputies arrived and found a man in the front yard suffering from a stab wound. The man was transported to the hospital for treatment. The homeowner reported that the man came home intoxicated and assaulted him several times before he defended himself. The condition of the injured man is not known at this time. Detectives are continuing this investigation.
Happening Today: Jefferson County Sheriff Mark Pettway to Unveil Renewed for Reentry Program
BIRMINGHAM, AL – Jefferson County Sheriff Mark Pettway is standing firm on a campaign promise to address criminal justice reform. On Monday, July 15, 2019, Sheriff Pettway will join community partners to announce details on his Renewed for Reentry program. The program is designed to reduce the recidivism rate by providing education and job opportunities for individuals that are currently in the Jefferson County Jail. Domestic Shooting In Eastern Jefferson County
On Sunday July 14, 2019 at 12:24pm a woman called the Sheriff’s Office to report that her husband had shot her child’s father. Deputies responded to the 100 block of Haversham Dr. to investigate. The woman said that the man had somehow entered their home and began to assault her. The woman stated that the man was armed with a pistol. The woman’s husband was able to get his own pistol and shoot the man. Deputies arrived on the scene and recovered both weapons. The injured man was transported to the hospital for treatment. We have not been updated on his condition. Sheriff’s detectives are continuing the investigation into this incident.
Update on 7-13-19 Center Point Shooting
UPDATE: On Saturday July 13, 2019 deputies responded to a call of shots fired at the apartments at 25th Court NW. The Shooting incident actually occurred across the street in the parking lot of a convenience store. Deputies found 2 men suffering from gunshot wounds. The shooting occurred after a dispute between 2 groups of men. Detectives were able to determine which group confronted the other and began shooting at them. Detectives have arrested and charged 2 men with Assault 1st degree. 35 year old Brandon McKinney is charged with Assault 1st degree bond $25,000.00 and 26 year old Courtney Graham is Charged with Assault 1st degree bond $25,000.00. The victims were transported to a hospital with non-life threatening injuries. One of the offenders also suffered a gunshot wound during the incident. His injuries were minor.
